Annette Ayers: History on the Map: Alberta's Naming Landscape - The Stories

Duration: 3 minutes, 29 seconds

Annette Ayers explains that geographical names are more than labels on maps and road signs. They provide a tantalizing glimpse into our history. The stories behind place names in Alberta reveal our Aboriginal heritage, patterns of settlement, exploration and migration, and reflect outside influences on our history. The session was sponsored by the Friends of Geographical Names of Alberta Society a registered charitable society dedicated to promoting awareness of Alberta place name heritage. (Presentation at the 2005 Social Studies Summer Institute)
