Culture of Health and Safety

What Is a Health and Safety Culture?

A culture is the accepted way of doing things among a group of people in an organization. A culture of health and safety has to be demonstrated by practices that ensure the safety of all. A culture of health and safety reflects the attitudes, beliefs, perceptions, and values shared by individuals with respect to health and safety. Facilitating a positive culture of health and safety that is integrated throughout CTS, school environments, and workplaces requires the cooperation of students and the active understanding, energy, participation, and leadership of everyone within the school jurisdiction, including

  • central office staff (e.g., superintendents, directors, supervisors, coordinators, and specialists)
  • school personnel, both certificated and non-certificated
  • students
  • volunteers
  • contractors
