The Alberta K-12 EAL Proficiency Benchmarks (Benchmarks 2.0) support teachers in
- assessing and monitoring the language proficiency of EAL learners
- planning for language instruction
- communicating with EAL learners, their parents and their other teachers about students’ language proficiency.
Use the Benchmarks tracking sheets to document language proficiency growth over time. Student writing samples and videos by levels of proficiency support teachers in using the Benchmarks. Teachers can also access tools that provide EAL instructional strategies and learning supports by proficiency level. Printable Benchmarks with examples are also available.
