Student writing assessment exemplar:
“Pass the ball to me” “I’m over here”!!! The boy with the face on his shirt asks for a ball. Then the baseball hat boy didn’t pass, he throwed it. The girl behind the hat boy is scared to get too close. Does the ball go in? No, it doesn’t. The boy with a striped hat will throw it and get some points.
Level 2: Uses more high-frequency and a few low-frequency descriptive words (baseball hat, scared, close, striped, some, points), instructional words (asks, pass), and synonyms/antonyms (pass/throw)
Level 2: Uses familiar simple sentences (Does the ball go in?) Attempts compound sentences (Then the baseball hat boy didn’t pass, he throwed it.)
Level 2: Uses more high-frequency connector words, markers (sequence), and phrases to organize ideas (then) and add detail (over here, behind, too, in, with)
