What your child is learning![]() In Grade 5 music, students create rhythms by combining
beat, tempo, patterns, metre and duration. They
understand that melodies change when rhythms change
and that chords can go with melodies. Your child
will recognize the sounds of many instruments.
While singing, they will understand how to read
parts, such as for sopranos or altos, and they
will focus on phrasing and pronouncing words clearly.

of studies How your child is assessedYour child’s learning is assessed using a variety of tools and strategies within the classroom. Ask your child’s teacher what methods they are using. The different assessment methods tell you and your child’s teacher about your child’s strengths, the areas in which they might grow and how well your child is doing throughout the course. Your child’s teacher can then change or refine their teaching plans to ensure that learning activities better meet the needs of your child. At the end of the course, your child is assessed and their achievement is reported so that you know if they have achieved the expected learning outcomes for their grade.
