What your child is learningYour child will develop as a performer,
listener, consumer, critic and composer.
In junior high, there are three distinct
but related music programs: instrumental
music, choral music and general music.
Your child will hone their skills, strive
for musical excellence and express their
feelings and ideas through music. As they
are exposed to a variety of styles, they
will explore the history of music as well
as the role of music in their own life.

of studies How your child is assessedYour child’s learning is assessed using a variety of tools and strategies within the classroom. Ask your child’s teacher what methods they are using. The different assessment methods tell you and your child’s teacher about your child’s strengths, the areas in which they might grow and how well your child is doing throughout the course. Your child’s teacher can then change or refine their teaching plans to ensure that learning activities better meet the needs of your child. At the end of the course, your child is assessed and their achievement is reported so that you know if they have achieved the expected learning outcomes for their grade.
