Vygotsky

Vygotsky was a Russian psychologist whose first book, Thought and Language, was published in 1934. His work was not available in English until 1962, when it attracted the attention of Jerome Bruner, among other notable western scholars. From that point on, his theory spread rapidly in the social sciences and provided a unifying point for psychology and other disciplines. Today, his writing remains a central influence on our understanding of language and literacy.
