Douglas Roche: The Human Right to Peace (Part 1)

Duration: 4 minutes, 48 seconds

Douglas Roche presents some statistics and global trends that reveal the inequalities that exist among the peoples of the world. Dr. Roche urges teachers to encourage students to be conscious of social inequality and to embrace a culture of peace. He stresses the point that poverty does not equal terrorism; instead, poverty needs to be dealt with first in order to address this and other modern world problems. (Presentation by the Honourable Douglas Roche, O.C., LL.D. at the 2004 Alberta Education Social Studies Summer Institute)
