As a possible culminating activity to the inquiry, this challenge invites students to examine the factors that shape their community and the key features of their community. Invite students to identify all that they have learned about the features that make their community special. List their responses on the board. Ask students to work in pairs or small groups to choose three community qualities that are particularly note worthy. Finally, ask students to create a certificate of merit praising their community for its diverse and unique qualities. You may want to adapt the chart and strategies for Selecting the Best Thing (Support Material) to structure and assess this activity. Invite students to share their chosen features with the rest of the class or with members of the community.
