A Climate of Cooperation

What makes a good classroom citizen?

Synopsis

Many outcomes found under:

General Outcome K.2 "I Belong" may be addressed by inviting students to explore their role as cooperative "classroom citizens." Through a series of activities students come to appreciate how and why they can help create a caring classroom environment. To introduce the inquiry, students might explore the rules they have at home and discuss the importance of rules in helping them work and play in harmony. Various sources of literature might be used to introduce and reinforce the concepts of rules and cooperation. Throughout, students investigate their own actions as well as the actions of others in learning to appreciate the importance of working together to create a cooperative environment.
