Carla Peck 
                                    Carla Peck is an assistant professor  of social studies education in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on  students’ understandings of democratic concepts in general, and their  understandings of ethnic diversity in particular. The main focus of her current  research is on the relationship between students’ ethnic identities and their  understandings of historical significance in a Canadian context.  
                                    She has published in the  journal Canadian Ethnic Studies/Études  ethniques au Canada, and  in the widely-used pre-service teacher education textbook, Challenges and Prospects in Canadian Social Studies.  Before moving west, Carla taught grades 1  through 8 in rural New Brunswick.
